About the Artist

Brianna Sinder, a mixed media artist, creates work that investigates what nurtures us and what has been lost through generations of disconnection from land, culture, and ancestral knowledge. Drawing on themes of ecology, memory, and decolonization, she uses art as a way to explore belonging, stewardship, and the values that guide human relationships with the more-than-human world. Her work encourages reflection on how we define value and what it means to live in reciprocal relationship with the places that sustain us.

The Native Currency Collection

“The Native Currency Collection is an intentional questioning of what we value versus what we should. As I decolonize my wild mind and rebuild my memory of what wild actually looks like, I am creating a coded system of value that I can internalize. This work is built upon money, arguably the most valuable thing in a capitalistic society. Gold “dollars” feature species that are coded as Critically Imperiled and Imperiled, silver “quarters” feature Vulnerable species, and copper “pennies” feature Apparently Secure and Secure species. The size and availability match this coding as well. The original gold dollars are approximately 12 x 12 inches in size and there will only be 8 embellished prints available in 4 sizes. The original silver quarters are 8 x 8 inches in size and only 25 embellished prints will be available in 3 sizes. The original copper pennies are 6 x 6 inches and 100 embellished prints will be available in 2 sizes.”
